Injectable Fillers

Dermal Filler Injections in West Orange, NJ

Dermal fillers are used to fill deep lines, voids, hollows, volume loss, and contour issues in the face. Made with a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid, they add volume where injected and help the skin retain moisture. The results of dermal filler treatments last between six months and two years, depending on the location of the injection and your chosen filler type. I offer the full range of FDA-approved injectable products from Juvéderm®  in my New Jersey office and customize treatments to achieve your desired results. How Dermal Fillers Can Improve Your Appearance

Dermal fillers boost the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid to add replace lost volume in the face, instantly softening and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. A dermal filler treatment can help you look and feel younger by treating:

  • Facial creases
  • Deep nose lines
  • Deep lines around the mouth
  • Vertical lines above and below the mouth
  • Enhance jawline
  • Recessed chin
  • Recessed scars
  • Thin lips
  • Thin or sunken cheeks
  • Unevenly shaped lips

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a popular option for patients who are looking for a safe and non-surgical way to reduce the signs of aging. If you are hesitant to undergo surgery or want to make quick, zero-downtime improvements, dermal fillers are an excellent way to achieve a more youthful appearance. Ideal candidates for dermal fillers are patients who are nonsmokers, in overall good health, and have a loss of volume and collagen production in their face due to aging.

What to Expect at Consultation for Dermal Filler Treatment

During your consultation, I will review your medical history and discuss your goals and areas of concern for the treatment. I will evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors that you may have. Once I have gone over your medical history, I examine your face and skin to provide specific recommendations based on your individual needs. I will also go over the potential outcomes of dermal fillers and answer any questions you may have.

How to Prepare for Treatment With Dermal Fillers

For best results and to reduce bruising and swelling at the injection site, I recommend that you:

  • Avoid taking blood thinners, anti-inflammatory medication, and vitamin E supplements for at least 10 days before your dermal filler treatment.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages in the three days before your dermal filler appointment.

What Happens in a Dermal Filler Treatment Session?

At our medical spa, board-certified nurse practitioner Victoria Murphy performs dermal filler injections. The injections usually take only a few moments per site. Before making the injections, we cleanse the injection sites with an antibacterial agent, mark your face as a guide for treatment, then use anesthetic ointment to numb the area. We inject the dermal fillers using very fine needles and only add filler after evaluating the initial results. After completing your injections, we wipe away the face markings and provide you with an ice pack to reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort. Then, you are free to leave our office and immediately resume your usual daily schedule.

What to Expect After Treatment With Dermal Filler

Dermal filler results are immediately apparent, revealing a more youthful and full appearance! However, you may experience some bruising and swelling, temporary numbness or redness, or hypersensitivity after the treatment. Swelling, bruising, and numbness usually disappear within a few days or weeks after the injections; you can alleviate them with topical icing. In rare circumstances, patients treated with dermal fillers who get COVID-19 or the COVID vaccine soon after treatment can develop late hypersensitivity to their fillers—receiving fillers after having and recovering from COVID or more than two weeks after your vaccination should not pose any risk. Please let us know your vaccine status when scheduling your appointment.

What Not to Do After Treatment With Dermal Filler

After your filler injections, do not scratch, massage, or pick at your injection sites. We also recommend that you refrain from some activities after your dermal filler treatment:

  • Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours.
  • Do not perform any strenuous activities for 24 hours.
  • Do not use retinol or oil-based makeup for 24 hours.
  • Do not expose the treated areas to intense heat, such as a sauna or tanning bed, until swelling subsides.
  • Do not touch or massage the treated area for 24 hours.
  • Do not get a facial, glycolic peel, microdermabrasion, or facial wax in the two weeks after your treatment.
