Reduce Fine Lines with Botox Injections
When you are seeking a non-invasive method to restore a smoother and more youthful appearance and feel more confident every day, Botox may be the right choice for you. Dr. Spiro and Dr. Parcells of Spiro Plastic Surgery are proud to provide their patients with access to Botox and other non-surgical injectable treatments, to reduce the most common signs of aging and restore a more youthful and radiant appearance.
What is Botox?
Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a non-invasive injectable treatment used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles to help patients achieve healthier, younger-looking skin. Administered via injection, Botox blocks certain chemical signals from nerves in the face, especially those that cause the muscles to contract. When a Botox treatment is administered, the facial muscles are temporarily relaxed, which results in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles over time. Since it is a non-invasive treatment with minimal risks that can easily correct the most common signs of aging, Botox is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the United States.
What is Botox Used For?
Facial lines and wrinkles can drastically age your appearance. Whether they are simply a result of aging or come primarily from repeated actions (like smiling, frowning, or squinting), Botox can address many common signs of aging, including forehead lines, wrinkles between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and lip lines. The reduction and elimination of these types of blemishes can have extremely positive impacts on a person’s daily confidence. When the facial muscles are relaxed as the nerve signals are blocked by the effects of Botox, wrinkles soften and become less noticeable over time. Botox results are most often seen within five to seven days of the treatment and can last up to four months. Aside from its cosmetic application, Botox is currently used to treat over 20 different medical conditions affecting various areas of the body.
What to Expect from Your Botox Treatment
How to Prepare
To achieve the best possible results from your Botox injections, there are some preparation steps you should take. A few days before your appointment, avoid taking certain medications, such as blood thinners, NSAIDs, and muscle relaxants, as these substances can increase the likelihood of bruising at your Botox injection sites. Applying an ice pack to your injection site before (and after) your treatment can also help to minimize bruising. You should also thoroughly clean your face before your appointment.
During and After Your Treatment
Before your Botox treatment, the target areas are cleaned by your cosmetic surgeon, and a topical anesthetic may be applied. Botox will then be injected into the areas of the face to be addressed, which only takes a few minutes. As the needle used for Botox is very fine, most patients experience only minor discomfort.
Immediately after your session, you should avoid lying down for up to two hours. You should also avoid touching your face after your treatment so that the Botox is unable to move to areas it was not intended to reach. Temporary bruising is common, and headaches, which usually end 48 hours after treatment, are a rare side effect. Dr. Spiro and Dr. Parcells will answer any questions you have, so you can leave the office feeling confident about your treatment.
