Gynecomastia Surgery in NJ

Gynecomastia is a condition that frequently affects men between the ages of 50 and 69. Men who have gynecomastia develop enlarged breasts and have excess localized fat, glandular tissue, or breast tissue that may cause emotional discomfort. Gynecomastia may also affect one or both breasts and can be due to hormonal changes, hereditary conditions, disease, or certain drugs. Although gynecomastia can go away on its own over time, there are instances where surgical correction is often needed to address the problem. I help men suffering from gynecomastia through male breast reduction surgery to enhance your appearance and self-image. Gynecomastia Surgery Candidates

Ideal candidates for gynecomastia surgery are physically healthy, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations of the outcomes of surgery. You may also be a candidate if you have abnormally large breasts, puffy nipples, loose chest skin, and your condition cannot be corrected through alternative medical treatments.

SURGEON BY TRADE

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I specialize in deep-plane facelifts, neck lifts, breast procedures (augmentation, reduction, reconstruction, and en bloc type implant removal for breast implant illness), and body contouring surgeries like mommy makeovers and tummy tucks. My unique approach blends medical expertise with an artist’s vision to create natural-looking, transformative results.

ARTIST AT HEART

My passion for art extends beyond surgery—I have illustrated journal articles, book chapters, and patient education materials. My office features reproductions of my oil paintings, graphite drawings, and photography, reflecting my dedication to aesthetics and precision.

What to Expect During a Gynecomastia Surgery Consultation in NJ at Spiro Plastic Surgery

During your gynecomastia surgery consultation, I will talk to you about your expectations, desired goals, medical history, use of current medications, and previous surgeries. My team and I will also evaluate your general health status, perform diagnostic testing, examine your breasts, take detailed measurements of your breast size and shape, and recommend a course of treatment.

Gynecomastia Surgery Preparation

To prepare for surgery, you may need to take certain medications, adjust your current medications, get lab testing, and avoid taking supplements or anti-inflammatory drugs that may increase bleeding. If you smoke, vape, or use any nicotine, cannabinoid, and/or ADHD medication, you must be willing to stop for several weeks before and after your surgery. Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you overnight if necessary.

Gynecomastia Surgery Procedure

I use two different methods when performing gynecomastia surgery: liposuction and surgical breast reduction.

Liposuction can enhance the chest contours and provide excellent sculpting results with less discomfort and downtime. I use liposuction in cases where gynecomastia is the result of excess fatty tissue. During liposuction, I insert a thin hollow tube (cannula) through several small incisions. I move the cannula in a controlled back and forth motion to loosen the excess fat and remove it from your body through a vacuum suction.

I use traditional breast reduction surgery when I must remove glandular breast tissue or excess skin to correct gynecomastia. A small excision is also necessary if I need to reduce the areola or reposition the nipple to create a more natural male chest contour.

Gynecomastia Surgery Recovery

After surgery, I apply dressings or bandages to your incisions. I may also provide you with support garments to minimize swelling and support your new chest contours. I will give you specific post-op instructions to follow, including what medications to take, how to care for your surgical sites, and when to make your next follow-up appointment. Recovery from gynecomastia surgery varies depending on the procedure. If you have liposuction, you may resume normal activities within three to four days but avoid strenuous activities for at least two weeks to let your breasts heal. Surgical breast reduction requires a longer recovery time which may be several weeks until you reach a full recovery.
