Beyond the Operating Room

Long before becoming a plastic surgeon, Dr. Scott Spiro developed a deep passion for visual art. While preparing for a career in medicine and surgery, he pursued art as a second major and continued creating throughout his professional life—illustrating medical journal articles, contributing artwork for educational publications, and exhibiting original work across multiple mediums.

His artistic achievements extend beyond medicine. Dr. Spiro received national recognition as a surgeon artist and later exhibited in acclaimed shows, including participation in Plastic Surgery as Art at APEX ART in New York City. In 2018, he completed a commissioned mural installation for Art Basel in Wynwood, Miami.

Today, art remains central to his philosophy. Every patient who visits Spiro Plastic Surgery experiences a curated collection of his original work displayed throughout the office—a reflection of how observation, proportion, perspective, and creativity influence both his artwork and his approach to facial and body aesthetics.

Seeing Beyond the Surface

A study in movement, distortion, and perspective.

A New Perspective

Architecture becomes abstract through reflections captured in unexpected places. These pieces explore the difference between simply seeing and truly observing—an essential skill in plastic surgery where proportion, symmetry, and restraint often define exceptional results.

Capturing Movement

Each piece explores how changing perspective transforms familiar scenes. This same sensitivity to subtle changes helps Dr. Spiro recognize how small adjustments in surgery can create balanced, natural-looking outcomes.

The Reflections Collection

This grouping shows two of his oil paintings and four sets of photographic reflection essays.

The photographs tell the story of architecture in Budapest and Prague as it is seen distorted in the reflection of car windows.

The oil paintings include (1) the reflection of a water tower in the plate glass windows of a modern building in downtown NYC. (2) The reflection of buildings in a canal in Amsterdam. Dr. Spiro loves how the architecture is shown bending into curves and unusual shapes.

Capturing New Angles

Understanding Scale

These dramatic viewpoints train the eye to interpret relationships between lines, dimensions, and proportion—the same concepts used to evaluate facial balance and body contour.

Creating Visual Flow

Architecture teaches intentional transitions between form and space, reinforcing Dr. Spiro’s approach to creating results that feel cohesive rather than altered.

Budapest Crossings: Bridge Life

These are some of the oil paintings Dr. Spiro has created of various views along the Victory Bridge in Budapest, Hungary. Dr. Spiro uses “up perspective” and extreme perspective views to capture unusual views or architecture.

Art In Precision

Observation First

Graphite work demands patience and careful study. That same discipline influences how Dr. Spiro evaluates anatomy and plans individualized procedures.

Controlled Refinement

Every mark contributes to the final composition. In surgery, thoughtful refinement—not overcorrection—often creates the most beautiful outcomes.

Graphite & Pencil Works

Dr. Spiro uses a hybrid material known as “silvered graphite” to create images of various scenes including architecture and other still life. He often is drawn to the “up perspective” which highlights his use of extreme perspective.

Seeing Beyond the Expected

Reframing Perspective

These exaggerated viewpoints challenge conventional observation and encourage looking deeper—an approach that helps reveal opportunities for rejuvenation and balance.

Finding Harmony

Even bold perspectives remain grounded by proportion. This principle mirrors Dr. Spiro’s philosophy of achieving meaningful change while preserving natural identity.

The Up-Perspective Collection

These oil paintings juxtapose architecture, an extreme perspective, occasionally with stylized people in the foreground to ground the paintings and lighten the extreme of perspective.

Additional Featured Pieces

Art and surgery share the same goal: transforming ideas into outcomes through expertise, restraint, and attention to detail.

Experience the Philosophy in Person

The artwork displayed throughout Spiro Plastic Surgery is more than decoration—it offers a window into how Dr. Spiro sees. Patients often discover that the same attention to line, balance, movement, and subtle detail found in his artwork is reflected in the way he approaches aesthetic care and natural-looking results.
