Yes, as with all our treatments. Before receiving dermal fillers, you’ll start with a consultation where Mikayla and our team will examine your skin and discuss available treatments based on what you’re hoping to achieve. This conversation helps determine which filler type, placement strategy, and amount of product best aligns with your goals and facial structure, or if we might recommendation additional or alternative treatments.

Who is a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are a popular option for patients who are looking for a safe and non-surgical way to reduce the signs of aging. If you are hesitant to undergo surgery or want to make quick, zero-downtime improvements, dermal fillers are an excellent way to achieve a more youthful appearance.
Ideal candidates for dermal fillers are patients who are nonsmokers, in overall good health, and have a loss of volume and collagen production in their face due to aging.
What to Expect at Consultation for Dermal Filler Treatment
During your consultation, Mikayla Barbarossa will review your medical history and discuss your goals and areas of concern for the treatment. She will evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors that you may have. Once she has gone over your medical history, then she will examine your face and skin to provide specific recommendations based on your individual needs. She will also go over the potential outcomes of dermal fillers and answer any questions you may have.
How to Prepare for Treatment With Dermal Fillers
For best results and to reduce bruising and swelling at the injection site, Mikayla typically recommendsthat you:
- Avoid taking blood thinners, anti-inflammatory medication, and vitamin E supplements for at least 10 days before your dermal filler treatment.
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages in the three days before your dermal filler appointment.
What Happens in a Dermal Filler Treatment Session?
At our medical spa, we perform dermal filler injections. The injections usually take only a few moments per site. Before making the injections, we cleanse the injection sites with an antibacterial agent, mark your face as a guide for treatment, then use anesthetic ointment to numb the area.
We inject the dermal fillers using very fine needles and only add filler after evaluating the initial results. After completing your injections, we wipe away the face markings and provide you with an ice pack to reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort. Then, you are free to leave our office and immediately resume your usual daily schedule.
What to Expect After Treatment With Dermal Filler
If you experience any swelling, bruising, and numbness, these symptoms usually disappear within a few days or weeks after the injections; you can alleviate them with topical icing.
In rare circumstances, patients treated with dermal fillers who get COVID-19 or the COVID vaccine soon after treatment can develop late hypersensitivity to their fillers—receiving fillers after having and recovering from COVID or more than two weeks after your vaccination should not pose any risk. Please let us know your vaccine status when scheduling your appointment.
What Not to Do After Treatment With Dermal Filler
After your filler injections, do not scratch, massage, or pick at your injection sites. We also recommend that you refrain from some activities after your dermal filler treatment:
- Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours.
- Do not perform any strenuous activities for 24 hours.
- Do not use retinol or oil-based makeup for 24 hours.
- Do not expose the treated areas to intense heat, such as a sauna or tanning bed, until swelling subsides.
- Do not touch or massage the treated area for 24 hours.
- Do not get a facial, glycolic peel, microdermabrasion, or facial wax in the two weeks after your treatment.
How Long Do the Results of Dermal Filler Treatments Last?
The results of hyaluronic acid dermal filler treatments are temporary, lasting anywhere from six months to two years. If you maintain good overall health and have healthy and resilient skin, your results may last longer.
Your results may also last longer if you combine your filler treatments with the medical-grade treatments and skin-rejuvenation products offered by our award-winning medical spa. Our dermal filler treatments and medical spa services will help you keep your skin looking refreshed and young for years to come!

Most patients don’t experience any downtime with their filler injections. It’s normal for there to be some temporary, mild swelling or bruising around the injection sites.
Dermal fillers produce immediate improvements, and final results become more refined as any swelling resolves.
