Dr. Spiro earned his M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School in 1988. He completed his surgical internship at Stony Brook University Hospital, followed by four years of general surgery residency, including serving as Chief Resident at St. Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey. He then trained in plastic surgery at the University of Miami under Dr. Ralph Millard Jr., followed by an additional craniofacial fellowship under S.A. Wolfe, M.D.
In 1996, Dr. Spiro founded his private practice in West Orange, New Jersey, with a commitment to combining advanced surgical care with a deeply personal patient experience.

In 1996, Dr. Spiro published a landmark paper on breast reconstruction in the Annals of Plastic Surgery. It discusses the use of the TRAM (transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous) flap for a type of breast abnormality. Dr. Spiro wrote the paper in 1995 during his plastic surgery training at the University of Miami.
