Dermal fillers have established a long and successful history in restoring or enhancing the beauty of the face. But a factor that is often not necessarily considered is exactly who administers the treatment. In more recent years, there has been a notable increase of healthcare practitioners – such as oral surgery clinics – beyond cosmetic surgeons that are administering dermal fillers. Unfortunately, while these individuals do everything that is needed to legally administer a filler safely, it is unlikely that results will be as consistent as through a plastic surgeon’s office.

This is due to the differences in education. A board-certified plastic surgeon and his or her staff have studied a specific area of medicine, becoming experts is what defines the cosmetic features of the body not just aesthetically, but also biologically. For instance, for more dramatic results, a plastic surgeon may recommend refining the transverse lines of the forehead as part of a surgical brow lift which, while more invasive, could ultimately save money and produce the actual desired result. For the same reason you likely wouldn’t get your teeth cleaned at the plastic surgeon, it’s not advisable to get dermal fillers done at the oral surgeon.
